Bermuda actuarial analytics salaries 2026

The latest official occupation data available for Bermuda records median gross annual income of BMD 226,796 for 301 actuaries working at least 35 hours a week in the category the survey calls other non Bermudians. This is the closest official proxy for internationally recruited actuaries. For 53 Bermudian actuaries in the same hours category, the median was BMD 166,395.

These are the strongest public benchmarks for a 2026 hiring conversation, but they are not a 2026 salary survey and they are not salary bands by seniority. The Government of Bermuda published the detailed 2024 Employment Survey after the survey period. Its gross income measure can include more than base salary, and each group contains different employers, disciplines and levels of responsibility.

What do the latest Bermuda actuarial salary data show?

Evidence

Published figure

How to use it

Government survey, Bermudian actuaries, 2024

Median gross annual income of BMD 166,395 across 53 full time job holders

Broad occupation benchmark, not a level specific salary range

Government survey, other non Bermudian actuaries, 2024

Median gross annual income of BMD 226,796 across 301 full time job holders

Broad benchmark for internationally recruited actuaries, not a guaranteed offer

The Government survey counted 370 actuarial jobs in total during 2024, of which 303 were held by other non Bermudians. The full time income tables use slightly different populations, so their counts should not be added or treated as a complete salary distribution.

Which public figures help analytics employers?

The same survey provides three adjacent benchmarks for other non Bermudians working at least 35 hours a week. They give an analytics employer useful context, but they are not salary bands for insurance analytics, insurance linked securities or catastrophe modelling.

The labels, populations and medians matter together. The securities analyst figure is based on seven people and should not be treated as a market wide analytics rate. The statistical and software categories may include work outside insurance. Employers should use them as adjacent signals, then price the actual portfolio, technical method, decision authority and live candidate pool.

How accurate is a Bermuda salary benchmark?

Accuracy depends on what the figure is being asked to represent. The official median is reliable for the population defined by the survey. It does not tell an employer what a particular pricing actuary, capital lead or insurance linked securities analyst should earn in 2026.

Current advertisements can add role detail, but each reflects one employer, one mandate and one point in time. Employers should use several layers of evidence: official occupational medians, comparable live roles, a map of relevant candidates and the internal value of the role. The purpose is a defensible offer range, not a manufactured market rate.

What determines actuarial pay in Bermuda?

The decision the role owns

Pricing, reserving, capital, valuation, transaction and leadership roles carry different commercial and regulatory responsibility. A title such as senior actuary cannot be priced until the employer defines the portfolio, signing authority, committee exposure and accountability for final decisions.

Relevant market experience

Bermuda insurance and reinsurance work can involve local capital rules, international reporting, complex reinsurance structures and close contact with senior leaders. Direct experience may justify a premium when the person must operate independently from the first day. An employer that can provide a structured transition may consider a wider international pool.

Scarcity of the specialism

The Government survey recorded 370 actuarial jobs and showed that 82 per cent were held by other non Bermudians. That is evidence of reliance on international talent, not proof that every actuarial specialism has the same shortage. The relevant supply must be mapped by discipline, level and mobility.

The complete package

Base salary is only one element. Bonus, housing, pension, health cover, relocation, professional fees and leave can change how candidates compare offers. Employers should state which items are guaranteed, discretionary, reimbursed or taxable.

Is Bermuda tax free for employees?

Bermuda does not impose personal income tax, but employees can bear an employee portion of payroll tax. For the period from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027, the Government publishes progressive employee rates across five remuneration bands. The rate starts at 0.25 per cent on the first BMD 48,000 and rises for higher bands, up to a maximum taxable remuneration of BMD 1 million.

Employers remain responsible for paying the full payroll tax, although they may deduct the employee portion from remuneration. A candidate should therefore receive a clear explanation of gross pay, expected deductions and benefits. Calling the package tax free is incomplete.

Cost also matters. Housing and other essential expenses in Bermuda can be substantial. A larger gross figure may not create the expected household outcome if the offer omits housing, family health cover, school costs or relocation support. The right comparison is the complete package against the candidate’s circumstances.

How should employers set a 2026 offer?

Start with a role brief and build the range around evidence. The following checklist makes the assumptions visible before a search begins.

Offer input

Question to settle before approval

Role scope

Which portfolio, decisions and regulatory responsibilities does the person own?

Candidate market

Is the search local, international or both, and which qualifications are acceptable?

Pay evidence

Which official benchmark and comparable live roles support the range?

Package

What is included beyond base salary, and which elements are guaranteed?

Mobility

What support is available for work permits, housing, family and relocation?

Internal equity

How does the package compare with people carrying similar responsibility inside the firm?

In our experience of international relocation searches, a headline number rarely settles the conversation. Candidates compare the role’s authority, the complete household package and the value of gaining relevant market experience. We therefore test package expectations and relocation constraints during market mapping, before an employer treats a public benchmark as a final budget.

What should relocating candidates check?

Candidates should ask how bonus is determined, whether housing is an allowance or a direct benefit, what health cover includes and which relocation costs the employer pays. They should also clarify payroll deductions, pension contributions, leave, flights and any support for dependants.

For qualified actuaries, the Government extended its Actuary Work Permit Policy to 31 July 2027. Qualifying new applications can be processed within 10 working days when the position, experience, advertising, documentation and professional designation requirements are met. That policy does not remove the need for a complete application or apply to every analytics role.

What is the most defensible salary answer?

The official median for other non Bermudian actuaries is BMD 226,796, based on 2024 gross annual income. The adjacent statistical, securities and software figures provide additional context for analytics hiring, with clearly stated populations and limits. None establishes a universal salary range.

Employers should treat the figures as reference points, price the actual responsibility and test the range against the relevant talent pool. Candidates should compare the whole package, not a promise of tax free income or an unsupported average.

Frequently asked questions

Is the official median a salary offer benchmark?

No. It is a 2024 gross income median for a defined survey population and can include more than base salary. Use it as a reference point, then price the actual role.

There is no personal income tax, but employees can bear a portion of payroll tax. Compare the whole package, not the headline.
