Actuarial and Analytics Salaries in Bermuda 2026

Actuarial and Analytics Salaries in Bermuda 2026: What Re/Insurers and ILS Funds Are Really Paying

Bermuda does not publish a salary survey. There is no official actuarial compensation index for the island, no industry wide disclosure requirement, and the firms that dominate the market, Class 4 reinsurers and ILS funds, are not in the habit of advertising what they pay.
What follows is based on publicly available compensation data, named employer sources and live market postings as of early 2026. It represents the most accurate snapshot of what the Bermuda market does pay for specialist actuarial and analytics talent. However, be warned, it is not a guarantee, and the methodology caveat below applies

How accurate are Bermuda actuarial salary data?

Not entirely. No official Bermuda salary survey, rough samples, and a couple of sources that report Bermuda data actually use data from US-resident searches. See the figures below as banded salaries by seniority level, not absolute guarantees.

The methodology caveat, read this first

Actuarial compensation in Bermuda is very dependent upon designation, specialisation, employer and seniority. Some of the search results here that appear to be Bermuda salary data are in fact searches for US residents for positions with Bermuda exposure, rather than salaries paid to Bermuda based employees. Bermudian dollars are at parity with the US dollar, therefore BMD and USD are equivalent figures. These ranges are indicative, not guaranteed.

What is the salary of Bermuda-based actuaries in 2026?

Approximately: qualified actuaries BMD 191,000 to 214,000 at midpoint, with live senior reserving role advertised costing the equivalent of USD 190,000 to 315,000, and senior total compensation at one maintaining reinsurer reaching BMD 345,000 to 493,000. Bermuda has no income tax, and thereby the post-tax benefit of these packages is heavily increased.

1.Qualified actuary (FSA or FIA, 3 to 7 years post qualification)

Glassdoor January 2026 salaries place the median Bermuda salary for a qualified actuary at BMD 202,500, with a spread of BMD 191,250 to BMD 213,750. This is a mini sample of only 4 salaries and should be taken more so as a mid-point indicator, rather than a specific spread. PayScale (2026) report a senior actuary’s average base spread of around BMD 155,000 and total pay of up to BMD 194,000.

An IPS Group posting from January 2026 for a Lead Reserving Actuary at a Bermuda based reinsurer at the equivalent of USD 190,000 to 315,000. The posting requires an FSA or FIA and experience in property casualty reserving. This helps to illustrate what a competitive package looks like for a qualified actuary in the present market.

2.Senior actuary and specialist (8 or more years post-qualification, BSCR or ILS experience)

According to Levels.fyi (April 2026), the total compensation range for a senior actuary role at Ariel Re (Bermuda) is BMD 345,000 – BMD 493,000. This is a single firm data point for a senior role at an established Bermudian reinsurer and as such needs to be used accordingly. It reflects a ceiling in terms of competitive senior offers, rather than an overall market average.

Senior roles requiring a level of BSCR capital modelling expertise, ILS experience or catastrophe modelling leadership will strive towards the top of this range. The new era of increased regulatory complexity at the senior level in Bermuda (BoMA 2026 initiatives impacting on ComFrame and Holistic Framework transposition) has resulted in a higher level of compensation for senior actuarial roles.

3.Analytics and catastrophe modelling specialists

Dedicated salary data for analytics and catastrophe modelling roles in Bermuda is thinner than for actuarial. The market dynamic is similar: strong demand, constrained supply, and compensation that reflects the difficulty of sourcing the right people.

Quantitative ILS analysts and catastrophe modelling specialists with RMS or AIR platform expertise sit broadly in the same compensation band as qualified actuaries at equivalent seniority. Senior data scientists leading modelling teams at ILS funds command packages comparable to senior actuaries. These figures are consistent with what comparable roles pay in the London ILS market, with the additional consideration that Bermuda has no income tax.

Why are Bermuda actuarial salaries so high?

Because Bermuda cannot produce enough qualified actuaries locally and the UK and US channels it relies on are stretched. Employers compete intensely for a small pool with specific qualifications, which drives compensation above markets with deeper local talent, and extends hiring timelines.

Bermuda is an island of some 64,000 people. It does not have sufficient actuarial, catastrophe modelling and analytics talent creation or training locally to meet the demand its re/insurance market generates. Bermuda employers have long sought talent from the United Kingdom and the United States, which have much larger talent pools that are currently strained.
This creates highly competitive labour market conditions for Bermuda employers. They must compete for a small number of people with specific qualifications, and this competition drives compensation above what the same role would pay in markets with deeper talent pools. Recruiting also becomes slow. Companies that underestimate the distance hiring may have to travel (including the cost and disruption to relocate their families), and the work permit process (which can take several weeks), tend to end up taking longer than anticipated, creating a second cost.

What should Bermuda hiring managers take from this salary data?

Three things: the ranges are market rates not negotiating positions, total compensation including the tax-free position matters as much as base, and the talent pool extends well beyond the UK and US to underused markets such as India.

First, the compensation ranges above are market rates, not negotiating positions. Firms that open searches significantly below these figures typically extend their time to hire and lose strong candidates to competitors who price the market correctly from the start.

Second, total compensation matters as much as base salary. A Bermuda package that combines a competitive base with the island’s tax free status presents differently to a relocating specialist than a headline number suggests. Communicating the full economic picture to candidates, including relocation support, cost of living context and the tax position, materially affects acceptance rates.

Third, the talent pool is not limited to UK and US channels. The Indian actuarial and analytics market, one of the largest qualified talent pools in the world, has barely been accessed by Bermuda employers. Senior specialists with IAI Fellowship, many of whom also hold IFoA recognition, and with international reinsurance experience, represent an underused pipeline for firms willing to run an international search.

Global Actuarial Talent Solutions for Bermuda Hiring Teams

EliteRecruitments supports Bermuda re/insurers, ILS funds and analytics teams with specialist actuarial and analytical hiring across international talent markets.

As Bermuda hiring competition intensifies and local availability remains constrained, many firms are expanding beyond traditional UK and US recruitment channels to access deeper pools of qualified actuarial and catastrophe modelling talent. This is particularly relevant for reserving, BSCR capital modelling, ILS analytics, pricing and specialist reinsurance functions where experienced talent remains limited globally.

EliteRecruitments works with employers seeking internationally experienced actuarial, catastrophe modelling and analytics professionals, including candidates with reinsurance, capital modelling and cross-border market experience across India and other global talent hubs.

Frequently asked questions(FAQs)

1. How much do actuaries earn in Bermuda?

Indicatively, qualified actuaries earn around BMD 191,000 to 214,000 at the midpoint, with senior and chief-level roles at established reinsurers reaching BMD 345,000 to 493,000 in total compensation. Bermuda has no income tax. Figures are indicative and vary by designation, employer and seniority.

2. Are Bermuda salaries quoted in US dollars?

Bermudian dollars are pegged at parity with the US dollar, so BMD and USD figures are equivalent. Many postings quote one or the other interchangeably.

3. Does Bermuda tax actuarial salaries?

Bermuda has no personal income tax, so the post-tax value of a Bermuda package is materially higher than the headline figure for someone relocating from a taxed jurisdiction. Cost of living, especially accommodation, partially offsets this.

4. Why is Bermuda salary data so limited?

Bermuda publishes no official salary survey and has no industry-wide disclosure requirement, and the dominant Class 4 reinsurers and ILS funds do not advertise pay. Available data comes from small samples and live postings, so it should be read as indicative.
